My OBGYN just told me to try this as my insurance won’t cover infertility medications or tests.

It helped me !! I got my positive pregnancy test after taking it during ovulation, I had a miscarriage back in 2022 and diagnosed with PCOS in 2023 and me and my husband was trying to get pregnant this whole time . Tried the trick and got a positive test.

Good to know. I'll never take an expectorant again! 😂

I thought that my fertility doctor recommended it for me because I have cystic fibrosis, so much thicker mucus. I didn’t know that it could be used in that way for normal people. It ended up that I had uterine polyps that had to be removed, so thick mucus was not the problem. After polypectomy I got pregnant with my next cycle. I was stunned! My son just turned 14 last week.

14 years ago my obgyn recommended to try this for creating a more hospitable environment for sperm mobility! I have a 13 yr old son now so, yeah agter 4 years of trying 2 months on mucinex and we got pregnant.

Makes sense! It thins secretions and that would include that of the vagain/cervix! Wow, interesting! are any of the compounds of Guaifenesin in any fertility meds?
This is how meds for other issues are discovered. Cumadin a blood thinner was originally a rat poison.
Topomax aka Topamirate is used for Epilepsy and it's main side effect is weight loss so now it's used as a weight loss drug. There are MANY examples of this. Those are the two I know off off the top of my head.

Not saying this helped me get pregnant… but… I had a cold and was taking a bunch of cold medicine around ovulation of the cycle I got pregnant. I was told we would never have a baby naturally due to both my husband and I being factors. We were just about to start fertility treatments, but got pregnant right before. Baby is now 10 weeks old!

I have an unplanned pregnancy, and I blame Musinex 😂

Fascinating. Some meds help with other issues than originally designed. For me, I'm on prazosin, an allergy medication, for the management of intense nightmares. Also, I am part of the PCOS/endometriosis squad.

So.... would it negate the cervical mucus thickening caused by a hormonal iud? I'm considering getting one, and this is definitely an interaction I wouldn't have thought about.

Would it possibly make birth control less effective then?

I was wondering about other mucus areas!! Thanks!!
So, to be careful, avoid if not wanting to get pregnant. Maybe ask your physician if you want to be pregnant! 😅

Given that this is how it works, would Guaifenesin interfere with progesterone only forms of contraception such as the Progesterone only pill, the hormonal IUD or the implant that work in the opposite way? I have never seen this given as a warning on cough medicine.

I wonder what would be the dosage for fertility? If it’s recommended “occasionally” do you just take how ever much you’d need for a cold? I wish it was studied more to have like clearer instructions

In Belgium, the expectorant of choice is acetylcystein. And it has many uses besides that (N°1 medicine against free radicals, so used for plenty a disease without a cure, see for instance The Netherlands with their protocol for CRPS).

Definitely know what you’re buying if you decide to try this. Ensure it’s guaifenesin with no other ingredients. Other cold medicines can have a harmful effect and it’s a bad idea to take meds you don’t need. Also- remember correlation isn’t causality. Just because you did X and Y happened, that doesn’t mean X caused Y to happen. I brushed my teeth and got pregnant! Probably not caused by the tooth brushing even though they happened together. That’s why you should listen to smart people like MDJ and ask what the evidence shows to be true! Keep on rocking @MDJ !
