Step into history. ✈️🕰️

Take a tour of "Doc," the iconic B-29 Superfortress. Once a top-secret marvel of WWII, it featured a revolutionary remote-controlled gunnery system powered by the first portable electronic computers in 1944. We spoke with Frank Berry, historian and member of @DocsFriends, about the groundbreaking technology and engineering that set this aircraft apart.

With 18-cylinder engines producing 2,200 horsepower each, the B-29 was an engineering powerhouse where every crew member, from the bombardier to the flight engineer, played a critical role in its success

I was sitting in the cockpit of FIFI in the engineer's seat. In the pilot seat was an actual B29 pilot from WW2. Watching him run his hands over the controls and looking out the window, as if he was looking back 50 years, was a highlight of the airshow for me. ❤

Probably just me but I love the blend of basic analog & technology that existed between the 30s & 70s, some gorgeous and functional machines. Had a smooth but visceral feel to them.

Every time I see anything on the B-29 it chokes me up. In a good way though 😊. My father worked his way up to pilot from navigator on the B-29 during World War II. As a kid growing up I would love to hear all the stories that he and his fly buddies would talk about. They're all gone home now. God rest there soul

I just find it hard to comprehend how incredible the brave young men were flying this stunning flying plane that was a marvel of technology in its time- so so much to do constantly with the continued threat of death hanging over them …….

Wow, this puts things in an entirely new perspective when you think about our brave young men operating those amazing machines, lets not forget the amazing minds who even thought of creating those things and then actually having a team of people who sometimes never even seen each other who actually put them together WOW, JUST WOW!!! Some of the greatest women who ever lived as Americans worked on building those amazing machines❤😊

I went to a party in the 1980's and met the pilots and aces of WW2 I was in an awesome company of men. I did not get their autograph at the time. I wished I did now 20/20 is hindsight.

I couldn't imagine being the flight engineer in combat, getting peppered by flak and possibly fighters. Watching guages, praying he doesn't see pressures start dropping. I was lucky enough FiFi came to a large airport about 30min from me and hearing it fly over, seeing it land, getting to walk through it, it's a wild feeling. Pride, amazement, wonder, and a little tinge of sadness for the ones who never made it back home. Doc is in my list of must see planes!

And DOC was restored right here in Wichita KS. I got to have a small part in that, it took years and tons of volunteer effort to make it like new again.
Beautiful!! 😁❤️💯
