Thank you for not just being like the other shop and actual check. I hear people so often recharge their system. I see it advertised even. It's a closed system, if you lost refrigerant, you have an issue. I understand the very tiny leaks are a pain, the type that you go more then a year or two without an issue, then it might just be very hard to find. This wasn't a tiny leak.

The last few summers I've started doing a lot more A/C's.
Fact is, they're pretty simple and there aren't that many points of failure.
The initial investment to start doing them is high, but most of the insane prices that big shops charge for A/C diag & repair is just straight gouging.
Especially when a 72 cent schrader valve or Oring is often the only problem!

It’s crazy to me other shops just add Freon when the ac is low. If your ac is low, that Freon went somewhere, it didn’t just magically disappear. Everytime a customer has a ac problem the First thing I do is check if it’s low and spray soapy water all over and see if it leaks, if it passes that then vacuum test, if it passes that as well I fill it up and then go after sensors and wires.
