UL listed equipment is not garbage, buddy! And, as another person commented, you should have installed GFCI protection because of the 2023 NEC Code requirements. And, you modified that enclosure, changing the manufacturers specifications for NEMA-3R classification. I do agree with you on turning off the power!

Use the industrial grade for applications where frequent connecting and disconnecting is expected. Any UL listed 14-50R will do fine for up to 40A continuous current on stationary cord-connected equipment, IF YOU TIGHTEN THE LUGS SUFFICIENTLY.
If it melts, it’s likely due to a bad connection that you made or corrosion due to weather exposure.

The reason we are supposed to be using these now for Ev Chargers is because the regular range outlet is not rated for continuous use. Continuous use is as you know, 3 hours or more. When you do this all day everyday, the regular outlet will burn up.
Just like those stab in Outlets that were from the 70's, people are constantly calling us because half of their living room has gone out. 9 out of 10 times they are using a space heater or a window air conditioning unit. They are damn near maxing out the circuit all day everyday and when you do that, the weakest link is found in the circuit which is the stab in, in one of the outlets.😊😊😊

Hey, wouldn't mind seeing a short on the best way to install a plug for generator power to a house, my parents use to do it kind of the dangerous way and have a male end to male end cable that plugged into the dryer socket.
Still not very knowledgeable on electric but i know back feeding power and such was a very big concern, and would like to know a simple way to do a correct one
