I remember meeting women while drunk. I was spontaneous, fun loving, confident and playfully wild. Then they would hang out with me sober and would realize who i really was, quiet, cynical. Shy and uptight. Those relationships never worked out. So i stopped drinking and started exercising, then i turned into my best self that stayed consistent.

I quit drinking August 8th this year shortly after my 40th birthday. I haven’t felt this well in a long time. I have focus and clarity which had been missing for quite sometime. I’m listening to God more.

I quit drinking 3 years ago at 29 years old. All of my 20s were wiped away because i drank. Now in my 30s im focused on work and moving up in my career and building a solid foundation for my wife and kids. Its not easy but drinking will certainly make it harder.

This is very inspiring to someone who is trying to change their relationship with alcohol.

Same for me Dr. Peterson. No one can explain it so eloquently like you did. God delivered me from alcoholism. Amen.

9 months sober today. It’s not easy to give up something that was your crutch for so long. I made terrible mistakes that I can’t take back or even make right again. But I know if I just stay clean for another day I don’t have to make those mistakes again.

It certainly did not bring out the best in me! Grace of God, I haven't had a drink in 38 years.

My ex was an alcoholic and you hit the nail right on the head, with this one. She had anxiety and would take meds for it and when she would drink watch out. I had to leave that relationship running

For me it silenced all the thinking. Loosened up all the knots in my brain so I could for a couple of hours just sit in the present moment

"Potenet anxiety reducing drug": provided you can keep it at just that, temporarily shutting out the negative voices can be good. Triouble is, the volume always creeps up on you over time, in order to keep experiencing that same positive effect. Before you know it, you have become dependant on it with a problem you crave.

This is fascinating. I didn't realize alcohol had this kind of effect on some folks. The cocaine effect in particular i have never experienced or the social belonging one. Maybe the anxiety reduction effect, but mostly I get sleepy, and if I have any physical pain, it is greatly reduced.

100% why I drink. Works better than any antidepressant I've taken. I never get drunk, only buzzed. I used to do drugs to accomplish same effect, but sober for 6yrs.
