Intermittent Fasting Dangerous: Good Science or Clickbait?

A new study has been released from the American Heart Association that says an 8-hour time-restricted eating linked to a 91% higher risk of cardiovascular death. But is that really what the data shows? Will intermittent fasting cause a heart attack?

In today’s video we’re going to take a look at the study and determine if it is of high or low quality. I think this is a very important skill for everyone to have because a lot of the scientific research out there is fraudulent and funded by industry, and you need to be able to quickly discern what you should pay attention to and what you shouldn’t.

This research is coming from the American Heart Association's Epidemiological & Prevention Lifestyle & Cardiometabolic Health Scientific Sessions 2024. This conference just happened March 18 through the 21st. I have linked the press release and abstract where you can read all about the study itself and how it is conducted below. I've also linked the poster presentation from the conference.

I hope people start to understand that diets are going to be different from person to person.

Interesting that the video is commenting on the reporting of the research, but the comments are about the research itself.

Most people eat in 8ish hour window now. If you are someone who doesn't eat breakfast, which I never did on the SAD. So you eat lunch and dinner, which is usually an 8-hour window or even shorter if you eat at say 12p and then 6p. 🤦‍♀️

Whahahahaha. If this is what the AHA views as science, perhaps we shouldnt follow thier guidance... this was a scientific embarrassment.

Muslims have practiced intermittent fasting for 1400 years and happen to have wonderful life longevity and extremely healthy organs.

Yeah, but intermittent fasting itself was a clickbait first, then everybody jumped on it, ignored the science and it’s a business since. Nothing replaces a variet diet and reasonable exercise.

It's only "bad" for you if your goal is to maximise muscle hypertrophy. Other than that, if you look at actual properly done human randomised control trials, it is very much neutral. The growth hormone, and authopagy thing pro fasting communities push so hard is twisted and misunderstood. It can be a great tool for weight loss, especially for people who struggle with snacking and have low self control. The classic 16/8 approach is perfectly safe, and if someone feels good on it, there's really no reason not to do it. If you keep your trainings around the eating window, you should still be able to get probably 95% out of your trainings
