I am guessing it's just the extra bulk/weight of kit for digital that stops most /P ops using digital. A computer with display and keyboard of some sort (though mobile phone can be used for some modes) plus extra battery and perhaps and interface all add up to more bulk than the average QRP/P rig with a CW key or mic.

Data mode on portable operation is annoying. I don't want to carry a computer + additional power supply with me if I work portable. Portable = KISS (keep it simple, stupid).

Getting more into QRP and POTA I'm now learning morse to support having better quality contacts beyond FT8. Its hard work, but will relish beign able to use the bands and doing something beyond FT8. Finding Learn CW Online is really helping, but its tough ! (well at least for me !)
