You can use a knife to crack the egg when using the egg shell technique, it gives a better edge and not likely to break the yolk when separating.

back in the 60s we had this device like a little plastic bowl smooth on the inside stepped on the outside to fit into the top of a glass it had a curved slot in the side we'd sit it in the glass crack the egg into it swirl the glass around and the white would slip through and into the glass

Does nobody ever just use a spoon? Just crack the egg into a cup or bowl and scoop until the white slides right off. Perfect white free yolk every time.

Honestly the shell method doesn’t require any additional cleaning or utensils. It works much better than how she did it. Enjoy keeping that bottle washed and wasting cabinet/drawer space to store it or having to find a bottle every time you bake. There’s no reason everyone shouldn’t be using the shell method. 🙄

The bottle trick is nothing new. That is old where have you been. Plus there are other egg seperaters that are just like the bottle.
