Why yelling at your kids won't fix their dysregulation

As parents, it’s easy to get caught up in correcting what our kids shouldn’t be doing.

But the real magic happens when we shift our focus to teaching them what they should be doing and reinforcing their attempts, even when those attempts aren’t perfect.

This isn’t just about getting through the day—it’s about creating strong learning pathways in their brains that will help them succeed in the long run.

For our neurodivergent, anxious, or differently-wired kids, this process can take a bit more time

They often need extra practice and consistent reinforcement to really get the hang of things.

It can be frustrating when progress seems slow, but it’s important to remember that every small step forward is building their ability to navigate the world independently.

Our patience plays a huge role in this journey. When we take the time to calmly and consistently guide our kids, we’re not just helping them in the moment—we’re equipping them with the problem-solving skills they’ll need when we’re not around.

It’s about more than just teaching them what’s right or wrong; it’s about helping them build confidence and resilience, so they can tackle challenges with greater ease.

It’s not always easy, and some days are definitely tougher than others, but the payoff is huge. Watching your child start to solve problems on their own, to see them use the skills you’ve been nurturing, is one of the most rewarding parts of parenting.

It’s a reminder that even on the hard days, you’re doing something incredibly important—you're helping them grow into capable, confident individuals who are ready to take on the world.

Make sure to COMMENT, SAVE, and SHARE so you continue to get guidance on how to help your child move from dysregulation to calm.
