Larian DOES have a history of banger after banger. The Original Sin games were already masterpieces. And their other games are amazing as well. Baldur's Gate was just more popular and larger in scale. They will probably stick with what they are good at and produce another CRPG, just with a smaller scale. Because a game with BG's scale will probably not happen again in the foreseeable future.

The story I read (from the internet of course, so take with a grain of salt) is that Wizards of the Coast is just kind of miserable to work with, and so they didn't want to keep working on the DnD IP.

There's a reason why some Wizards of the Coast IPs get passed from creation team to creation team. It's cause working with them is stressful and probably annoying. So it's not shocking they made this banger and then decided not to work with them again lol. Value yourself and others over a stressor. WOTC and Hasbro been a stressful duo with the D&D and other communities for a hot while now. The IPs they have are great and creative but how they go about it all has been turning pretty corporate overlord.

They aren't abandoning the IP, more like their contract with Wizards of the Coast is done (the company that owns DnD), and they want to make some in-house projects. They can take as long as they need.

The thing is BG3 is the best possible game of our time. It has the best graphics it could and has the best gameplay while still appealing to the largest audience they can’t make something so much better that it’s a sequel.

Divinity: Original Sin games are amazing. Imagine a game with just as much freedom to choose what to do next and how to do it as BG3, but it's Larion's own ip, giving them just as much freedom to make the game. It'll be awesome, as long as they stay humble.

If you want to know why Larian isn’t doing another Bauldar’s Gate game blame the greed of Hasbro and Wizards Of The Cost since Larian hated dealing with them so much that after they’re done with Bauldar’s Gate 3 they’re leaving the franchise for good due to how much they hated working with Hasbro and Wizards Of The Coast

FYI: I'm aware Larian has made great games, but nothing to the level of success that BG3 has....I'm not downplaying all of their achievements with other IP's as much as I'm stating the studio now has a MASSIVE spotlight on them to produce like never before.
No shade intended to Larian studios.
