Before cars were invented, the best way to go across the bay to San Francisco from Berkeley, CA, USA, was a train to a ferry terminal. The terminal was way out in the bay because the ocean floor sloped so gradually out. Now there's a popular restaurant on pilings called "Skates on the Bay" right next to the ancient railroad pier, with waves crashing on the breakwater. Burr Stewart shows both the pier, the San Francisco skyline, and the crashing waves, in this brief video.
