The surprise when you realise every hospital treats their staff differently.

I’ve loved seeing nurses get a lot more support the past few years. I’m hoping hospital cleaning/sanitation staff get the same amount of love in the future! It’s such a vital job that keeps people safe from biohazards, bacteria, viruses, etc., but it goes so unappreciated

Nurses Also tend to get way less respect from patients than doctors.

My mom is a nurse for almost 20 years and always tells stories about patients asking for the Dr to start the IV instead of her. The Dr comes in and says "cool I haven't done this since med school, she does it all day everyday." I always thought that was a neat acknowledgement of her. Nurses definitely don't get enough credit that's for sure.

As a doctor, I would be so lost without my nurses ❤ they are so phenomenal

When I first took a job at my current hospital, the head nurse told me “You’re the brains of the operation, and we are your hands and feet. Just member to listen to us now and then” She’s amazing and I’ve learned so much from her my first year out into practice.

I grew up with a mother who worked as a nurse, I always thought they were amazing and respected the hell out of them. (My main reason for becoming a doctor over a nurse is because I didn’t want to get stuck following the direction of lazy and arrogant doctors, I wanted to be a hardworking and compassionate doctor.)

I was horrified to learn how poorly my colleagues treat their nurses. Like we are all on the same team and respect is a 2 way street

I feel like the culture in hospitals is that nurses are replaceable, hence the lack of appreciation. There is this notion that anyone who wants to be a nurse can be nurse, while becoming a doctor is regarded as an elite best of the best kind of profession. I'm a nurse btw.

Becoming a doctor is immensely challenging from an intellectual perspective, become a nurse is impossible without exceptional empathy for others. Both are so important and I’m glad we have people who can fulfil both roles

Whenever I’m in a hospital I make sure to be extra polite and chat with the nurses and thank them for their time. They deal with a lot and maybe I end up being the one nice patient they deal with that day.

I was a nurse before I became a doctor and the work is different. Nurses work hard both physically & mentally. The mental piece of that is magnified X 1000 for doctors.

I loveddd my nurses in the ER and in ICU. My male ER nurse printed out an image to explain to me what type of aneurysm I had!! I was so grateful to him for that!!! ❤

Depends on the person. I have met some extremely lazy doctors and nurses. I have also met some amazing doctors and nurses. After my emergency hemicolectomy my surgeon absolutely carried me through my recovery. He didn’t just make the cuts and then dump me off on someone else. He was constantly making sure I was ok.

I just retired from nursing after many years, and I think we work physically harder, but our jobs are so different, I know we cross over, but I knew I wanted to be a nurse, not a doctor, and not in nurse management, deputy ward manager was enough!

I’ll never forget when a doctor from another country did rounds and changed one of my patients. The humanity and care of this doctor. Those are moments you never forget ❤

As respiratory, I hangout with the ED nurses ALL THE TIME! Nurses get WAY MORE cool stuff than RTs and are my kinda crazy!

It’s the same dynamic between Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians. As a tech, I’ve heard many of my coworkers lament that the pharmacists do so much less work than us when the reality is that their workload is extremely similar size-wise and simply doesn’t entail the same type of work.
