topic wise it also really reminded me of kim jiyoung born 1982! I know it's an old recommendation, but if someone hasn't checked it out, you really should!

This popped up in my YouTube subscriptions and made me imagine doing a similar thing on my own BookTube channel (if i ever launch it), but knowing my own reading interests, it'd have to look like a children's bookshop.

(11:01) That actually reminded me:

Out of all the physical books in my collection, I have only one book that was a signed edition, and I won it by chance from the author's since-failed first attempt at a newsletter (he had a second attempt which is still going IIRC), plus the author is one whose works I love and the book is the first in a series that I love despite having not read it yet!!

It's the first book in his current graphic novel series (following one that ran for a long time and had its rights acquired for a TV series that was axed… R.I.P.), it included a promotional bookmark promoting the book itself, plus it's only one of two book series I currently have on automatic buy! However, one thing that people would ask me if they see a photo of my bookshelf with that very copy is why it's a paperback while my copies of the rest of the series are hardback copies. (Yes, I prefer hardbacks when buying physical copies of books)

(Addendum: I forgot to mention that I understand that not everyone has signed books, but I found it funny that you decided to just sign your author copy of your own book, which also kinda makes sense as I believe my signed book was one the author pulled from his own box of author copies)

This is not as commonly-known as it should be, and I imagine even less so in the UK, but Jia's parents were human traffickers, and she lied about what they did and defended them extensively. Her "feminist" essays about Soulcycle classes sound incredibly hollow to me, given that context

PSA! The author does voiceovers of quite a lot of the chapters on BBC Sounds. It’s free and legal as it’s prt of their literature podcast series
