Itâs the game of the year, developing a game takes a lot more work than a dlc. You have to make mechanics, engines, basics, the game will feel different. To just have an already goty games dlc nominated is a little scummy to me.

I'm literally the biggest Elden ring fan ever, like I worship it and haven't stopped playing it since release, that being said black myth wukong 100 percent deserves game of the year, and it does tons of stuff that Elden ring doesn't do. Much better story much much better cinematics, more in depth and flushed out characters. I know people won't agree with this, but it has better boss fights as well. Obviously everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but let's not pretend that black myth doesn't offer something unique and special because it does.
Edit. Obviously I'm just referring to SOTE not Elden ring as a whole. Elden rings base game is the best game ever. But SOTE as a stand alone does not deserve game of the year

Personally while I do think shadow of the erdtree is better, black myth wukong took years to make and was made by a not so widely known company so I think they deserve it for their effort.

I remember in 2016 when the Witcher 3 Blood and Wine DLC won best RPG game at the game awards over Dark Souls 3. Shadow of the Erdtree winning GOTY really isn't much of a stretch if they let that happen

I personally voted for the Elden DLC, although I don't think a DLC should win Game of the Year. I believe it has much more depth than Wukong. Despite the fact that I really enjoyed Wukong, I feel itâs quite shallow in terms of combat compared to Elden

I feel the same way. BMW was good, but I really hated the vessel mechanics and how spammy the game felt at times.
As you said, it just doesnât do anything as good as SOTE did.

The DLC doesnât innovate on anything the base game does though. People say âomg this dlc is like a brand new gameâ but if FromSoft released elden ring than wrapped this DLC up and shipped it as elden ring 2 would people really gas it up that much? I donât think so. Itâs an amazing DLC that is built on the foundation of a game that won GOTY, but it is not worthy to be mentioned as a GOTY candidate because if it released as a standalone game it would not have recieved the same praise that it did.

Dlc is not a standalone game, it is a part of the main game, it should have its own category.

Battle mechanics for black myth vs roll simulator are wayyy better erd tree was good, but it wasn't record setting good. It's OK to have a wrong opinion every now and then. We're all human.

I love the DLC more than Black Myth sure. But it's a DLC. I think it's time for DLC's to have their own category so it wouldn't overshadow new games which is the purpose for Game of the Year.

Geoff is a FS fanboy. Dlcs r just extensions of the existing game. They don't change the game in any way and r optional. How convenient that only after ER's dlc is released that dlcs r suddenly eligible for goty. What a joke of an award show.

DLC shouldn't be game of the year. It should have it's own category. Outside of that the opinion is valid.
