As an American I like 15-25% dedicated to farming. Sounds good tbh. Enough to take care of most people etc.

Yeah, I'd say about 97% of the ppl I know couldn't farm and/or wouldn't have the patience to learn how to farm. The tech age we live in is the reason why.

Lapses in work used to be a thing too, long before these arbitrary 8+ hour work days; where even if you get the work done in half the time they still want you to “look busy.”

I know it sounds weird but it's because of advancements in farming and ranching technologies that allow fewer people to produce more with less work and land, so we produce way more per capita than in the past but this vastly reduced farming population has to keep up with societies demands and eventually the only way to scale is more land
(This is not an endorsement of factory farms btw, I think there are better ways to do that but I guarantee they contribute to this statistic)

Yup, that sounds about right. The people there are the more land we use for making food, so even if the population starts requiring more food by that time we’ll probably have terraformed Mars for more farming space by then therefore making it a none issue.

I heard somewhere that it took almost a 100 workers (farmers, tanners, tailors, blacksmiths, crafters, etc...) to support just 1 full time warrior, ie just a dude whose only job was to fight, like a knight or a samurai. Something to keep in mind when writing a fantasy or post-apocalyptic society
