People need to get it into their heads that changing your mind on something doesn't make you a hypocrite.

If I lifted without straps rdls and any heavy rows would just be a grip exercise, my legs and back would get zero stimulus, they are waaay stronger than my grip. I just have to train my grip separately.

I wish my back was as strong as my grip…

It should be said that not everyone needs straps if you’re lifting light. you’ll know when you’re strong enough that grip is the reason you have so many RIR or low RPE, building up your grip is extremely helpful in pull up and muscle up training too. you dont want to get in the headspace where you feel like you need this product just to perform in the gym, unless you’re repping out heavy weight for 8-15 reps grip is usually not the limiting factor as much as effort is

I've always been of the mindset that you let your grip go to failure before adding straps. Get the best of both.

If you are deadlifting without straps and don't want grip to be the limiting factor then you can use a mixed grip.

The only reason you should be using straps is in those lift where your grip gives up, but all the way until then use barehands otherwise you are not being sufficient efficient in taking the opportunity to train your forearms. Or if you already have lots of forearms strenght exercises (heavier than your deadlift) you could use the whole session straps.

On my recovery day I usually do cardio but before load up the barbell with weight and just hold it for a very long time and it has been a massive help of course I do the dead hangs etc but barbell holds are really the goat

The thing is... even with straps, your grip still gets a lot of stimulus, it’s not like you suddenly don’t have to hold the weight at all.

I deadlift without straps on deadlifts often enough, but then I use a mix grip. And only for very low reps.

Straps are better. They are safer, more even load. Train your grip by doing double overhand warm up sets and start using straps when your grip starts to tire out. Also, hand and forearms is best trained with high reps and a lot of variety.

Try mixed grip. I usually do my warm up sets overhand then alternate mixed grip sides each working set.

As a beginner trainer, should I just start using straps (like the versa grips) straight away for exercises like lats pulldowns and rows? I’m 6ft tall and only 108-110lbs as a 31 year old male and I really need to gain muscle

But isnt it better if you lift heavy after a light warmup...so. that your weist dont give up...just a doubt?

Just use hook grip. Not gonna lie, it feels painful and just plain wrong the first few weeks (even months).. But after that phase you unlocked it basiclly for life
