I have six 18th century American Chippendale side chairs. 1 has the ball and claw feet. I really like these.

wow Peter, thank you for the info. I thought that might have been originated in China or possibly Japan a long time ago before Chippendale used it. So you say it started in Holland in the 1600s, well that is interesting, looks like a good research project to find the first example. Maybe you can tell us what the ball and claw foot means, I thought it was a dragon reaching out for wisdom (the pearl).
