As the pile dwellers

Pile-dwellers around the Alps didn’t belong to a single culture group. Rather, we see multiple different cultures and civilizations rising up in Europe and its neighborhood. Archaeologists have identified more than 30 cultural groups within the area of pile dwellings.

At the mid-3rd millennium BC, the wider Danube region consisted of the Vucedol culture. North of it was the Corded ware culture, also known as the Battle axe culture, which were commonly placed in the graves of warriors.

In the west was the Bell Beaker culture, named after its pottery and characterized by bone forearm guards, stone arrowheads, quartz daggers and amulets. These items were also often used as grave goods.

All of these are contemporaries of the Early Minoan culture of Crete, earliest layers of Troy and the Old kingdom of Egypt. Civilizations developed writing and established first states.

In the Near east, this was the time of Sumerian early dynastic period. This is the time of Gilgamesh and the first pyramids.

Despite the distance, the cultures indirectly influenced each other's technological development and perhaps even spiritual beliefs.
