"You don't look like a jerk, but you are" took me out! lol lmao I have a list of invisible disabilities and the the large amount of people who magically acquire medical degrees to try to "fix me" or decide they have the same pains I describe and can do the things I say I cant, or assume I'm just lazy because I'm not having "up days", or suggest I just try "losing weight" (even though weight fluctuations is due to one of my illnesses. They drive me nuts!

My BFF gets this kind of thing all the time, especially food advice. "You shouldn't be eating that if you have Crohn's." "Have you tried limiting yourself to broth and noodles?" My comments are much different. I remind her regularly that if she is able to eat today, no matter what it is, my heart is filled with joy.

Oh the diet and exercise one is one of my favorites (sarcasm dripping can you tell lol) because my weight is apparently the only reason I have chronic pain and can't stand without sharp pain shooting up my back and not the truck that hit me as I was walking across a parking lot 7 years ago. Or that losing weight will magically make my Rheumatoid Arthritis disappear. I get that one all the time. It has gotten old...very old. I felt this one in my spirit Sir lol

I got all the diet and destress Have You Tried Advice, but the one that got me the most was Have you tried CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) for your Stroke Symptoms and Migraines? Because Constant Pain, Memory Loss, Right Side Weakness, and a half-dozen other issues are a result of it all being in my head ie. imaginary. I've lost almost a decade of my life because Drs listen to Native American Women, even less than they listen to anyone else. Also, Dear Dr., I am not your science research project. Stop trying to poison me with prescribing medications that are contra-indicated for my symptoms and medications allergies.

I had someone tell me i was to young to be disabled even though I was born with a few invisible disabilities and also sustained an injury in the army. my response to him was he was to old to be injured from a mortar, that shut him up in a hurry took him 15 minutes to ask me if i was military then he tried being friendly when i said yes and he claimed he was also military however he never served a day in his life he was known for fabricating stories for attention just to make himself feel better while degrading everyone around him.

My severe allergies to dogs are very invisible. I am soooo tired of explaining that for those allergic to dogs in both of the ways that there are tests for, like me, that there are noooo hyperallergenic dogs as they have not been down bred on both allergens. I like dogs, they just interrupt my ability to breathe, and oh yeah, wreck my immune system for about 3 days. When they make suggestions, I let them know that I've been an herbalist for decades, so, yes, yes, I have tried that, thank you for your "concern". Sigh.

Been there, done that, and lived through the ridicule since I was 5 years old.
In this country, (the UK) we neither value nor employ disabled people without a massive battle.
Yet, the Department for Work and Pensions, or DWP, has been subjecting people with severe disabilities to ridiculous assessments. A lovely bunch of peopleā¦ yes I'm being sarcastic because the government wants us all in work, but they REFUSE to properly fund programmes to help people who have NEVER had meaningful employment into any form of employment.
This criminal and unjust system has caused people to end their lives because they're forced into believing that they are a burden or a failure.
When called out on their BS, the Conservative government had the temerity to reply something like āwe'll ask them to tone it down but every disabled person is going through this ā there's no question of it ā we need to weed out the liarsā and instead of helping people they just ridicule and revile them for existing and requiring help.
Believe me, the British mainstream media has a hand in this, ridiculing and shunning people just for having a disability and just for being non-employable.
My situation is compounded by the fact that what I have is rare. Not only does the NHS not comprehend it properly, but the DWP has in the past used language in their correspondence which is hurtful and derogatory in its meaning. Things like āa danger to herself and othersā and ārequires constance supervisionā.
The thing I abhor most is when people ask, āare you going to work?ā
My usual reply is āNo, I'm an unemployable ā this country will hire criminals before it hires disabled people like meā and then begins the āyou don't look disabledā or the āhow are you disabled?ā garbage (I won't repeat what I said last time someone had the temerity to say that to me, but it was graphic and rather spicy, I don't like letting the She-Hulk out of her box but it shut him up!)
I also HATE when people apologise. I always call them out on it "what are you sorry for? Are you sorry that I was born a disaster human with a disorder so rare no one can fix it or is it more a case of you're sorry that I exist because if that's the case..."
it's got to the point now where I won't speak to anyone when I am on the bus.

RA here. Yoga. It's always the yoga. And anti-inflammatory diets (I have a history of ED and my doctor doesn't want me going on any restrictive diets). I'm also autistic and for a couple weeks as a teenager my mom thought it was a great idea for me to cut out dairy and gluten because she read a book or something where that helped some random kid's autism? I don't even know.

I have a good understanding with my doctors. Their's nothing i can do becaus it's my own body thats attacking me. I have one of the worst stages of Crohn's and Bechterew. I've had 13 operations last year and know live with a stoma. So the have you tried theory doesn't work anymore when you show them your stoma;

Have tried going gluten free? Have you tried cutting out meat? Have you tried asking the leaders of the church lay hands on you and claim your healing? --insert eye roll emoji... lol
