It can be weather, and it can also be your team doesn’t have tyres ready when they called you into pit, or the team can f up the strategy twice to make you drop from 1st to 4th

As you say, the race itself is usually just a "parade" of the qualifying order, but, I do recall watching Michael Schumacher race from the very back and make it all the way to fifth place by the finish of the race. It was one of the most exciting Monaco races I've ever watched.

Only way I see this track getting bigger for these low profile trucks is to have removable sidewalks so the track can be raceable.
