Jacob W. Davis invented them and he was a Latvian Jew who emigrated to the USA as a young man. Levi Strauss was a German Jews who emigrated to the USA at 18. The material came from France. So one of the most iconic American inventions was made by two immigrants using imported cloth. America's greatest strength has always been immigrants coming to America with big dreams.
