NASA Astronauts since the 70's have always had at least one spacewalker labeled with red stripes. These stripes, also nicknamed "Commander Stripes," are reserved for the lead astronaut on the EVA, or EV1. EV2 remains completely white, this enabled ground controllers and fellow astronauts to easily identify each astronaut.
