Finding Joy In The Unexpected: Silly Moments With Dementia 🌽 🥰 #dementiacaregiver #mom #silly

One thing that nobody tells you about caring for someone with dementia? You’ll find the strangest little surprises waiting around every corner. Dementia brings out quirky, imaginative sides you never expected—like a new world of hidden treasures!

You’ll start finding socks tucked into kitchen cabinets, a comb in the fridge, or a TV remote under the couch cushion like it’s part of some grand scavenger hunt. You’ll open a drawer to grab some silverware and discover a handful of crackers instead (snacks for later, maybe?). And there’s no telling what creative “redecorating” might happen with their wardrobe—shirts inside out, multiple hats, mismatched shoes, and face masks on corn. 😂

These little discoveries can feel absurd and unexpected, but they’re reminders of the whimsy dementia brings into everyday life. They give us moments to laugh and connect in a way that might feel strange to others but is special in our caregiving world.

Yes, caregiving is challenging, but it’s full of these small, silly surprises that keep us on our toes, lighten the journey, and give us stories to share. In those moments, we get a glimpse of the humor, creativity, and pure humanity of the person we’re caring for—and that’s something to treasure.

Share something your loved one with dementia does that makes you smile. The majority of the time it’s a heartbreaking and difficult road. So it’s very important to find the little glimmers of joy that peek out along the way. 😉🥹🥰🙏🏼🌽

My mom used to this kind of stuff all the time. 😢 I miss her so much despite the sadness of what this disease was doing to her!

My mother was a seamstress by trade, and would do things that seemed she was preparing fabric somehow to make something, I could certainly see her doing that too… dear sweet mom…..difficult dementia

My daddy did the exact same stuff I found such interesting things in his drawers, in the pantry and in the fridge.
