There were millions of people living in Poland before September 1, 1939, each of whom had their own dreams, their own reasons to laugh and cry, their own plans for the future and dreams of wonderful love. My grandfather, who was a car mechanic, worked hard and saved for his own house. In the spring of 1939, he bought a plot of land in Warsaw. But then suddenly everything disappeared. What remained were rubble, ash and mass graves. And this happened not because a volcano erupted like in Pompeii, but because at the same time another nation, possessed by the madness of its Übermenschlichkeit and hatred towards the rest of the world, decided, like in the dream of a drunken idiot, to play tausendjähriges Reich and set the world on fire, starting a war he couldn't win.
