We bought the 4 pack last year. Great little radios and perfect for ham fests, camping whatever. And you don’t have to say your call sign.

I actually set up a rescue team using the MURS channels. I chose this set of channels because they were VHF and a bit more power was allowed over FRS. While the radios I used were not "type accepted", I stayed within the "spirit of the law" by keeping the power on the lower setting. Also, since I was actually using commercial radios, I had "voice scrambling" available to me for OpSec. My "local" plan includes using this band for the neighborhood as well as on our extensive property. Conveniently, my magnetic driveway alarm also uses the MURS channels, so I can have my radios and HTs scan the 5 channels for either the alarm or local traffic.

I have thought about using MURS, but use frs for unlicensed operations around the ranch. I do need to get back to put up the permanent antennas up at the barn.

I respect everyone’s opinion. In my opinion I prefer FRS because in an emergency I can communicate with GMRS, but with MURS I can’t do it.

MURS, in my humble opinion is a much better choice than FRS (NOT to be confused with GMRS!). More power (2W v.s 500mW ERP for FRS) = greater range (terrain dependent, of course). Also, no restriction on antenna which means with 2W >into< the antenna one can use a higher gain antenna vs. the fixed that an FRS radio has. Also, far less possibility of interference from others using a MURS channel that FRS as the latter is used much more by 'casual' users.

MURS has so little use you can spend all day in a major area and hear no one but your traffic. Many have no clue its even there. My family use it almost every day on the property. Cell has made it less useful but now with our B1+ units its getting more use and less data across the lte plan.
