My parents didn't do this, and it ended up causing some rifts between me and my siblings.
This is a fantastic parent behaviour. You're letting them be each others friend. That's so, so important to let them have each others back.

I recently realized my two boys 9 and 6 like to talk at night when they’re supposed to be sleeping. At first I was going to stop it but then I thought “hey it would’ve been so cool to share a room with my brother and get to have that bonding moment”. So I left them to it. Also so cute hearing them “whisper”.

This! My brother and I have a terrible relationship because even if we were just talking with each other growing up, my parents would "intervene" to prevent a fight or even just tell us to keep quiet. If you want a good relationship, you have to let them have the space to build it themselves!

My daughter (8) literally did this this morning. She snuck lollipops into little brother (6) backpack. I locked eyes with her, gave a small wink and smile and walked away. ❤❤❤

My brothers and I used to sneak downstairs at night to raid the candy jar. I was usually look-out in exchange for the good liqourice. It's a very fond memory of mine. (They used a toy sword to unlock the sliding door, and were able to lock it again with the same sword. It was magical!)

If you see your eldest sneak a piece of candy to her little siblings after you said no...
...no you didn't.

When my brother and sister were in high school, I was born. I worshipped them and they were like a second pair of parents. I have a lot of wonderful memories. Sadly, my sister passed away last month after a long illness. But good memories last forever.

My mom still to this day will say stop fighting to my sibling and I when we're talking EXCITEDLY to one another. She's never bothered to learn what the pillars of our relationship are, because our whole life she tried to tear them down. Thank you for supporting your kids bond. ❤

as someone whose mom would deliberately start arguments between my older sister and i, thank you. we only reconnected and bonded when we realized she was the problem in our twenties. i just wanted to have that experience of being friends with my sister as a kid

A bigger battle is being won here mom. Good job seeing the more valuable lesson. We will save ourselves for a different battle.

Honestly, I can see it for multiple reasons. The obvious is simply that she's their sister, and she's sneaking them treats out of love, not to be disrespectful to you. Slightly less obviously, one day they're going to have a problem they don't know if they can trust mom and dad not to overreact to. Big sister's always been on their team, so it'll make sense to go to her instead. A trusted adult will never be hard for them to find, a few years from now.

I told my sister this once when she came home and I had been babysitting. Her 2 kids shared a room and you could hear them whispering and giggling through the door. She asked why I hadn't gone in there and told them to quiet down and go to sleep. I told her "the light is out, they're in bed, they'll sleep when they're tired. Right now they're bonding. If they're gonna hate each other later, why ruin this now?"

Love this. Choosing to see the love and humour in the situation, and also choosing your battles. Why blow up, about something that is actually quite lovely 💖

The sibling relationships are different, but if you ask dad when mom said no then we have problems 😂
