Now in its second week of service, George’s Donuts & Merriment is part of a wave of restaurants that are finding a home in West Portal.
The San Francisco-based gourmet doughnut and pastry shop celebrated its arrival with much fanfare last Friday. Dozens of locals watched Mayor Daniel Lurie cut the ribbon on a storefront that only months ago had suffered delays due to a fire.
While gourmet doughnuts aren’t a new Bay Area fad, or inexpensive for that matter (doughnuts from George’s Donuts cost between $3.50 and $4.75 each), locals continue to crave the unique twists and artisan flavors of this classic dessert.
