If your contractions are 4 minutes apart, last 1 minute each, and this pattern continues for 1 hour, it's a sign that active labor has begun. Time to consider heading to the hospital!
For second-time moms, who usually have faster labors, use the 5-1-1 rule: contractions 5 minutes apart, lasting 1 minute, for 1 hour.

Last Baby I had 5 of these 4-1 contractions and I had no more time to go to the hospital. It came right after that π

My OB tried to tell me to wait 2hrs once I reached contractions every 4 minutes lasting one minute. I ended up waiting an hour and then I called her between contractions and told her you better meet us at the hospital my baby is coming. When we got there I was already complete and was nearly pushing. If I had waited 2hrs like suggested I would have had my baby at home or in the car. π
Active labor to my baby being born ended up just being 2.5hrs.

My contractions only got to 30-45 seconds each. I was waiting to go to the hospital until they turned into a minute. When I finally went even though they never reached a min long, I was already 8 cm dilated.. so def a good idea but I relied too much on this haha

My contractions were like this for 2 days leading up to my son's birth. What they really tell you is when they are bad enough that you cant talk through them you should go.

My first labor was shorter then my second. My second was like 16 hours almost 17 hours my first was 12 hours. My third was also 12 hours. We will see how slow or fast this fourth one is.

This is always good advice! Also, if you're already in labor and your water breaks before you go to the hospital, don't wait it out. Go to the hospital even if your contractions aren't closer together. I've heard of so many birth stories of people waiting too long after their water breaks and they almost give birth in the car
