I wash my hair weekly. Blow dry every time & straighten every other time. I can ATTEST to this video. My hair is down my back now. The length retention is crazy!!!

Within one year my hair has grown so much more than when I was leaving it dirty & in “protective styles”

THIS, THIS RIGHT HERE 🙌🏾 !!! I though I was crazy because when I tried to go "natural" (no heat), my hair broke off and was TORE UP, even though I was moisturizing! When I went back to incorporating heat and stretching my hair recovered abd THRIVED, now it's mid-back length and health

Hi there! I completely agree with this post. I have started a “2 week” routine where I wear my hair natural for 2 weeks then I wear it straight for two weeks and this routine really helps with the health and length retention of my hair

Make sure to use a very low heat around your edges. Natural fluffy edges are very cute, feminine and youthful, so don’t feel the need to flatten them out. Plus, fluffy edges show that you’re rocking your own hair which is great promotion of Afro beauty.

Shrinkage is both disrespectful and magical all at the sametime 😢

Just stretching the hair period, however you choose to do it, helps your hair. Whether that’s with twists, a braid out, rollers or heat is up to you. Heat is not the enemy though. You’re right! It’s all about maintenance and knowing what your hair needs. It’s never a one method fits all. ❤️

The natural hair community has a lot of us believing that using heat is a horrible thing and that you’ll damage your hair by using it. Not true.

Some say that allowing your hair to air dry isn’t good. At the end of the day we can’t knock something until we tried it. I used to air dry only. Not anymore. I noticed my ends would be super dry, brittle and then shed once combed. No matter how moisturized I kept my hair.

I started blow drying every 2 weeks and I have no more knots or shedding. My curl pattern is also in tact. I would never go back to air drying.

Seeing clients every two weeks is great for business. Results will vary by individual.

PS I think we need to learn our hair and do what works best for our own hair. There's nothing wrong with experimenting and trying things out. That's how I learned what my hair loves and grew it to mid back after a couple years after a big chop.

I have a Revair and it helps feel better about using heat without damage.

Blow drying has been beneficial to my hair, way less shedding. My hair needs 80% less oil since I started blow drying and silk pressing. I couldn't believe the change in my scalp and hair...😮 So, I understand the hesitation.

I agree. I retain the most length when my 4B hair is stretched out. I grew up going to Dominican salons weekly (as my sister is a stylist) and the moment I stopped once I became an adult, I lost so much hair from not taking care of it or not doing protective styles like a blow out.

Totally agree, the more you blow dry your hair the easier it gets. As long as you use a heat protectant your ok. Most important wearing it loose avoids all the tight tension hairstyles that are put on the scalp.
