Building your credit from scratch can be daunting so here’s a few steps you can take to really boost this:
Step 1: get a family member to add you as an authorized user on one or more of their credit cards.
This can help you to build some immediate credit history without you having to actually own the accounts.
Step 2: apply for a secured card with your bank.
A secured card is made for people with either bad credit or no credit history and you can basically get a credit limit that’s backed by the amount of money you deposit to secure it. It can really help you to build your credit.
Step 3: get the bills that you are already paying reported on your credit report.
Many bills you probably have can be reported: your phone bill, WiFi, utilities, even Netflix.
This can really help to add some history to your credit.
Step 4: after 6-12 months, apply for a basic credit card that has no annual fees.
And you should be set!
Just remember: don’t go into debt for things you can’t afford! Never use more than 30% of your credit limit! And never ever ever be late on a payment!
While having a good credit score can help you in life, having bad debt can be a trap and you want to avoid that at all costs.

Do not add yourself to someone else’s credit in any way. Family or not, their fuck up becomes your responsibility.
Do get a secure card tho
