This is absolutely not surprising to me. Plants 'speak' to us all. All shamans know this! Some humans are able to use their 6th sense effortlessly, while it feels foreign to others. Bach remedies were developed by 'listening' to the wisdom of the plants. In the late '90s I rejected allopathic medicine to help me with a serious health concern. After a serious of deep meditiation I was shown an Island to go to and a plat to ingest. Did not know the name of the plant, but trusted my instinct. The Island turned out to be Kauai and the plant a Papaya Leif. I imagine it was not much different for the orangutan. I hazard a guess maybe easier, as animals are far more connected to nature than we are. Nothing magical or extraordinary, but a skillset we humans let slide in our modern life.

The orangutan didn’t just chew random plant and applied it on his or her wound but a specific plant that is known for having medicinal properties. It’s amazing and I’m sure it’s nothing new to the orangutan but new to the researchers.
