They always repeat the line that our soils are being depleted. There won't be some kind of event where all our soil becomes dead. If a field gets overworked, all it needs is some rest. Let it grow a cover crop, that is then composted in place.
He says it himself, that he 'worries'. It's easy to doom about hypothetical things we should avoid or protect ourselves against, but has he ever stuck a potato in the ground?
On the other side, gardeners over complicate growing food. I grew many tomatoes and peppers from just sticking plants in the ground. I didn't fertilize, weed (except initially), mulch, apply compost, prune, or apply any pesticide.
