This is week 1 of my 12-week job searching series where I take you through step by step what you should be doing when looking for a new job in 2024.
 
Week 1’s focus is to narrow down your job search.
 
There are over 12,000 different job titles out there… you cannot apply for them all.
 
You should be applying for a maximum of 3 different job titles at one time.
 
Your homework is to pick 1-3 job titles you want to apply for. ‼️ IMPORTANT ‼️ You have to WANT to do this job and be 75% qualified for it.
 
If you do not know what those titles are, this is the week where you do your research. I would also use this time to connect with people who have the job you’re thinking about applying for.
 
Make a list of those job titles. If you want to take it a step further, get specific on the industries.

For example, say you want to apply for only account manager positions at software companies.

Here’s a hint: You’re going to want to narrow this down because each job title you select is going to require a different resume. So get specific.

Finally, go to LinkedIn and do a search for how many jobs with that title have been posted in your area in the last week. If you see between 30-100 jobs …. You’re in a sweet spot!!
