I've done a few of these. You make it look simple. I know it's almost all day job.

I have helped do this exact thing. We cleaned the trailer out first, cut the rusted part out grinded everything flush then welded the new part in but we welded all the way around continuously not every so often like you did. Then we grinded flush sanded and painted to match the rest. The trailer in our case was white.

Damn, they couldn’t sweep out the trailer first 😂

Good job on welding, but no primer on the bare steel and screwing the aluminum chequer plate back to steel creates galvanic corrosion.

Atta boy dont prep anything, just get majority of the rust out and cover the rest with the shiny diamond plate 👌🏾

Disclaimer: I am not a welder, just a curious s.o.b.

why didn’t you grind down some of that corrosion on that bottom edge on the outside of the trailer? Was it not that bad? Does it not make a difference?

This was neat to watch. Thanks for sharing

It’s ok. If I was going to do this I’ll hide the welding behind the chrome to make it look better

I would've never welded over that rust that was so rough texture

It looks like an expensive trailer was saved. I would be curious to the cost of this project to the owner.

My OCD is screaming to use a grinder to clean up the edges before welding.
