Don't even think about playing this instrument. What do I mean? Ages ago, I approached an extraordinary musician. He had recorded well over a hundred CDs during an era when each CD was a mega event in the music industry. The CD itself had just been invented, and there were not that many recordings yet.

This musician toured all around the world and collaborated with practically all the most famous Baroque music specialists. At the time, you could have counted the number of these specialists on the fingers of one, or at most two, hands. He was a pioneer.

I asked him why he had embarked on his Baroque journey. I was expecting a philosophically profound answer, something larger than life itself. So I braced myself for his response. And then he gave it to me.

His big, resounding 'why'. Are you ready to hear what this great musician said?

He said, 'It was fun'.

That's it. That's all he said.

Is this reason enough? I'll leave that for you to ponder. However, playing this instrument is such a pleasure that it is hard to stop, and if your time is short, you better even do not start. Unless reviving musical cultures or being a pioneer is your kind of thing.
