Vanilla MK3…..was the worst. With MK4 shortly behind. My brother and I were obsessed with MK1 and 2 when they were popular in the arcades and I remember MK3 didn’t feel as good all around

There's a reason why Johnny Cage was not there, because he died temporarily in MK3. Johnny Cage got permission from Raiden to join his friends in MK4. For no reason whatsoever, they removed the ninjas all together in MK3, until MK3 Ultimate.

1. Mk trilogy (boss characters and nostalgia)
2. Mk9 (Best Mk game of all time)
3. Umk3 (made up for vanilla mk3 roster)
4. Mk11 (Best Dlc characters aka Spawn)

Vanilla 3 wasn’t that bad. The other new comers were excellent, like Kabal and Sheeva. Cyber smoke was a fair substitute for scorpion

I was probably 8 or 9 when I first played MK3 around the tume it cam out out, at someone's house, and my little brain could not understand what was wrong with it. I didn't know where my ninjas, Johnny Cage, and Raiden were. And why this weird Sub-Zero had a funky looking vest on and no mask with a scar. I thought his scar was cool, though. I just remember feeling sad, confused, and angry. I was all over the place lol.

To be fair, Shao Kahn invaded Outworld to Earth Realm. A violation of MK, it wouldn’t make sense for the Nether Realm to be involved, that includes Scorpion and Noob Saibot. Raiden ascended to elder god status, so he couldn’t partake in the carnage, as he stated in the intro of MK3.
