With the seats down a 4th Gen Prius can haul 4 bales of hay, 5 if you compress them a little. You can also fit 8ft wood posts if you have no passengers. So the small truck comment is not wrong.

If you REALLY don't want to be seen driving a Prius. Find a Corolla hybrid. They're quick enough and nobody will know you're driving a hybrid. Especially if you swap the badges.

Ive had customers like this come in and I'm usually like "woah that's a lot fo different options" usually a needs analysis and figuing out what their daily life/commute entails helps narrow it down but yeah 90% of the time a Prius or any hybrid for that matter is the best way to go.

In 2019 I bought a 2013 Prius with a decent number of miles (for about $12k). I replaced a 2003 Pontiac Aztek which was... eh. From late 2019 to June 19 2022 I spent less in maintenance than I saved in fuel (vs the Aztek) and I had the car paid off in 36 months (on a 42 month note) and I've never had so much disposable income. Even when I had a flat tire and I said "hell with it. I'll buy two" it was barely a dent.
That Prius comfortably hauled me and three kids all over western Pennsylvania. When I smashed a bambi with it the insurance company paid out $11k on my 210k mile 9 year old Prius. Sadly mid-2022 was the worst possible time to go car shopping (for used). I still kinda want a Prius but my 2019 Rav4 is good enough and does some things that the Prius wouldn't (like tow 1700 pounds and fit more stuff).
