Definitely true in technology industries. The problem is that the people who really want to be managers, who get off on having power over other people, are the complete worst people to actually have as managers. It takes a technically talented and knowledgeable person to actually be useful as a manager and properly support a team in these industries, but the best senior people to do those roles often don’t actually enjoy managing people and would rather stay focused on the engineering/architecture work. It’s actually a problem that goes beyond, to politics, etc., that the people who want to lead are normally the worst possible leaders. The people attracted to the power are the same people who will immediately become corrupt tyrants if given the chance.
