Governments used to tax the rich. Between the 1940s and early 50s the US imposed a 90% tax rate on the wealthiest citizens, which increased to 92%. In England there were times when creative taxation of the richest was not uncommon. When people have assets worth in the tens and hundreds of millions and more, a 90% tax isnāt going to make them poor. Having a little less and fewer people fawning over them, may even save these people from a life of severe mental illness, behavioural problems and moral turpitude.
With the right attitude, intelligence and courage politicians can do a lot with the stroke of a pen, but there has to be the will to act and that is what is lacking. Politicians want to play it safe instead of making the hard decisions and taking responsibility. This is where the electorate has to act and demand action.

Gary, Iām curious about your ideas on actual lockdowns. I became friends with Dr. Jay Bhattacharya of Stanford early in the āvid, and I think he was absolutely 100% right in his analysis (lockdowns are a terrible idea).
And, how might an economy work around the Cantillon Effect? I suspect they (govāt) knew precisely what they were doing. Even I knew what was going to happen and Iām not 1/100th the trader you are! But I knew to acquire certain levered assets during that period. Would love to hear your thoughts! š

Call me cynical but Iām sure that there were some people in government who knew exactly where the money was going to go and intentionally chose not to bother publicising it, because it was going in their pocketsā¦
