"There was no info online."

In other words, if it weren't for channels such as yours, this would be lost tech.

Thanks, CRD

My guess is if you wanted to outsource transcription you could have your transcribing service remotely dial into that machine to offload the tapes to a compact cassette and then be transcribed using a transcription machine. The transcribed documents could then be faxed back to the office in the morning.

Before we started using speech recognition in Radiology, everything was typed up by transcriptionists, and sometimes I would have to dial in and listen to parts they had trouble understanding. Now I wonder if I was calling one of these things?

I liked the old Dictaphones from the early 70s. They recorded onto a magnetic sheet that formed a loop and every time the loop completed it would bump the tape head to the right to the next track kind of like a floppy disc. Finding anything on the recording was just a matter of moving the head around the tracks, and you could instantly move to the middle or end of a recording at any time. The sheets also fit into a standard office folder just like any sheet of paper.

I guess it was an easy way for doctors to dial into their meetings and record them from any location, given that many specialty doctors don't really stick around their home office all week and often travel between different hospitals throughout the week.

This is so specific that it’s either an obscure customer request, or their engineers built it because they could and then went searching for a use case

We had a few customers that used something similar which we upgraded to when their overnight transcription service changed to digital recordings.
Older doctors would just walk around with their handheld dictaphones recording notes all day and then insert the tape into a machine and someone dialled in overnight to type up the notes into the patient records.

Would love to get my hands on one of these and repurpose it for something more modern, I love analog stuff like this.
