US general predicts war with China by 2025

The relationship between the world’s two great powers is in a dismal state, and it is getting worse.

Faced with China’s rising power and concern over what it sees as Beijing’s increasingly authoritarian drift and Chinese expansionism, the U.S. has hardened its positions on its rival in recent years.

President Biden has departed from traditional positions by repeatedly stating that Washington would come to Taiwan’s defense if it came under attack.

"I hope I am wrong," General Mike Minihan, who heads the Air Mobility Command, wrote to the leadership of its roughly 110,000 members in his memo. "My gut tells me will fight in 2025."

However, Pentagon officials said that the comments were not in line with American military assessments.

The top general wrote that both the USA and Taiwan will hold presidential elections in 2024, potentially creating an opportunity for China to take military action.

A full-scale military conflict over Taiwan remains unlikely. But considering the activity in the region, the risk of miscalculations and incidents is growing.
