Whenever people tell me that Yahweh only allowed slavery rather than actively supporting it, I point them to the story of Abraham, where Yahweh comes down and explicitly tells the escaped slave Hagar to go back to her abusive masters, Abraham and Sarah, and how Abraham eventually abandoned her and the son she was forced to bear him in the desert once Yahweh blessed the 90ish year old Sarah so that she could finally get knocked up by her husband/half-brother Abraham.
Like, I can't think of a single thing that Abraham did that wasn't the douchiest thing one can do in any given circumstance.

This really hit home for me. I took my girls to Easter service when they were little, around 7 years old because my mom wanted me to. Iâm raising secular children so I though this should be interesting. My eldest daughter after the priest read the story of Abrahamâs plans to murder his son for god, exclaimed âgod played a nasty prank and thatâs not goodâ. She said it in that loud childrenâs whisper and everyone around heard. I was for a moment, going to shush her, but she was spot on. Even children can see how horrible the Bible is and whatâs so sad is adults make excuses for that horrible behavior.

The last time I went to church the pastor shared the âwonderfulâ story of Abraham obeying god about to kill his son until god stopped him. I was horrified. Not only at the pastor but at everyoneâs reaction. I felt like I was on an episode of Midnight Mass with everyone praising it. That is NOT objective morality. You canât say I wouldnât kill someoneâŚ.unless gold told me to. The god of Abraham has nothing to do with objective morality. He is only about obedience.

I mean look at the story of Esther, the woman that ALL Christian women tell us to look up to. But how did she become queen? What created a vacancy for her to fill in? The king chopped his former wife's head off for being a 'disobedient' wife. And when you find out why she disobeyed the king, you'd be shocked at the fact god didn't condemn the king for killing the former queen. But ofcourse.
I feel so embarrassed that I was ever a Christian, or that i loved god, when it's clear god never liked me nor my entire gender.

the problem religists have though is that if i see someone try to - say- stab someone,
i try to stop them, whereas if you believe there is a god, you have to ask "god, did
you sanction this" - you have NO IDEA if stabbing someone is good or bad, you need

I brought up Abe's many issues to my 1st Grade teacher, I may have been the first/only 6-year old whose parents were told I might be better off in public school. I was kicked out of public school after seventh grade. No drugs, no violence, mostly "impertinent questions." Whatever. Given the choice of a military academy or Jesuit H.S., chose the Jesuits, who appreciate serious q's. This is what they gave me, all humans, including Jesus fail, it's in the recognition of and correction that we all have the chance for redemption.

That's a good point about if it were any other religion they'd be disgusted by it.
It's a brilliant excerise, you read a verse out of the old Testament to a Christian but tell them it's from the Quran, and they have no problem saying how vile it is.
Then you inform them it wasn't from the Quran but from the Bible and watch their head explode as they try and reconcile it lol đ

I told my christian brother a story in the bible and said it was from the Qur'an.
He then was disgusted by it and I then revealed to him that it was in the bible and his reaction was to give reasons why God let that happen and gave some bad excuses for that.
The hypocrisy...
