Especially the ancient and cultural context of when it was written and who the audience was. Reading each book individually instead of as one giant harmonized amalgamation really helps with context as well.

I think the greatest context of them all is that every time I read a chapter of the bible, the Word is directly relative to my moment or my day, speaking directly to me.

I did a study project earlier this week that required me to skim the text from Genesis through Baal Peor.
In so doing, I had a speed read of the action, giving me a look from a slightly different perspective than I had ever used.
Generally speaking, I am a thorough reader.
It took a new type of work for me to read something at a shallow level.
Anyway, the action shows mode clearly, events seem more directly related.
It took eleven hours and I made notes.

Context does matter, and as you do you have to sift through established doctrines and old traditions. Having a guide helps, but then at some point its necessary to start finding answers on your own by asking God for help. Prayer is far more powerful than people give it credit.
