What I find hysterical about the Kesubah is that the contract has been the same for centuries, but the couple's names and hometowns inserted are modern. You will sit at the chuppah of a friend's wedding, listening to the ancient text, and suddenly hear "Lakewood, New Jersey" among all the Aramaic.

As a Hindu this was very fascinating to learn. The circling the groom 7 times was particularly interesting to me because in Hindu tradition the groom and bride circle the holy fire/agni (homam) 7 times but it symbolises that they will be married for 7 lifetimes.

Ketubahs are so beautiful! I am a custom picture framer and we have framed a lot of them, they are always so beautifully made and I love how none look the same. They are such stunning documents and I find them all more lovely considering how long it has been a tradition ❀

I’ve always wondered what the glass breaking meant. Good to know!

I was told that the groom presents the ring and the bride has to put her finger through it, again as a sign of free will and choosing the groom.
