My husband and I are planning to buy in the next 2-4 years. We want to be able to live in a place that is our own in a home that is actually maintained without the fear of eviction.
We currently rent but do all of the maintenance as if we were home owners.
Including: finding an arborist to get a quote to remove hazard trees. Finding someone to fix our furnace, and paying out of pocket for the fix while waiting weeks to be reimbursed. After the landord complined 800 was too expensive for the fix. Finding and paying for the roof to be done, then get reimbursed. Finding a "cheap" dishwasher and fridge when our old ones died. I installed our dishwasher cause our landlord refused to pay for it. Sourcing and paying a new sump and finding a plumber to install it, then getting reimbursed.
The shady crap landlords are getting away with is obnoxious. Like everyone else, we deal cause we have nowhere to move to..
