Detecting Radiation Using High Voltage Plasma (Spark Detector)

Bringing light to the invisible, this spark detector takes advantage of Alpha radiation's tendency to ionize air. Add 6,000 volts of uncaged plasma, and now you're able to see the individual pathways which each alpha particle took!

Basically a big pancake Geiger tube, minus the noble gases. Maybe build a cloud chamber, they're not terribly difficult to build. But quite cool as you get to see the actual path of the various particles as they move around and through the chamber.

This looks like it could be a cool demonstration for lightning. Only the wires are like the clouds.

Thats an awesome design for ionizing radiation design. Simple yet effective.

Him: “I want to start a show all about plasma”

Business manager:” that’s a terrible idea. You would run out of content. How many episodes could you possibly make about plasma?”

Him: “bet”

Wow, verry cool!!
So every spark increases the current. So you could develop a circuit, that counts the current spikes in the supply line. That gives you a compareable reading of samples, like how many spikes per second.

This is the actual way we sense flame on gas furnaces. We call it ionizing flame rectification.

I would like to see how many alpha particles a granite countertop gives off.

Isn’t that just a fancy new version of the cloud chamber ☁️?

Would you like to build MPD Truster? It's pretty cool. Also, I would like to see you building and testing it.

I'm surprised you didnt build a plasma toroid and try this with it.

Are there different kind of particals and is there a way to determine what kind they are?
