I completely agree with you Fif that both sides need to consider the validity of the other side in order to have any chance of building a more mutally respectful society.
I have a friend who sees just about everything opposite from me in regard to politics, feminism, and social morality. It's not always easy for us to understand where the other one is coming from. But neither of us would ever simply tell the other 'your ideas are stupid'; and if we find we can't agree, we drop the subject tacitly acknowledging we each have equal rights to our ideas and won't try to force our own on the other. That's how we stay friends without having to agree on a lot of things while focusing on the enjoyable things we do have in common. đ

Problem of representation in movies is that they have been done wrong. Instead of making original stories where those characters can naturally exist, they race swap existing beloved characters in most insulting way. If done right, I bet no one will be against characters being black, female, gay, etc.

As a Greek I feel repersentation of my culture to me is important due to the fact we are only repersented as either our ancestors millenia ago with usually white anglosaxon actors or poorly sterotyped modern greeks who even then arent that commonly depicted. Thats why when I see stuff like queen cleopatra or hades (the game) who completely severe our repersentation in favour of other groups rep I feel upset.
So I belive repsentation matters but more on cultural repsentation rather than just racial rep
