Its not him succeeding while his character failed. Yozo IS Osamu Dazai. Osamu himself was an alcoholic, morphine addicted, son of a politician and had three unsuccessful attempts just like Yozo.
Osamu only succeeded on his fourth attempt which was after he published the novel.
