Very good advice for art too
If you only start with character sketches but never move forward you'll only get good at sketches
The whole rendering processes to color contrast mood details etc don't get worked on.
You'll be stucked on one part of the process and you wont get better in general.
You won't realise what more mistakes you can make and once you try moving on from sketching, you don't know how to and your dedicated stubbornness gets the better of you, you might give up because you feel stuck.
Its better to take a leap of faith, full knowing you'll make mistakes, coming to terms with that process of making mistakes and learn, so you can move forward and get better and better, and becoming an accomplished artist.
I know how it feels to not have the courage to not do things because of what if, you want to overthink of the potential situations than dealing with those situations firsthand. There's a difference between a plan and unnecessary thinking that in the end might not help at all.

unsolicited advice: do it bad the first time. not entirely on purpose, but make it knowing it will not meet your expectations. once you have moved thru the whole process, the actual attempt will be much smoother. in garment sewing, this is a toile. a mock-up of a sewing pattern made of cheap fabric that is both for ensuring the garment fits, but also helps you go thru the motions of the construction process. unless you're shooting for a wearable toile, it's okay to botch it. in fact, it's kind of probable. but when you go around a second time, you have the knowledge, skill, and finesse to create that thing you have in your head. and it does live up to your expectations! give yourself multiple drafts! * gets off soap box *
