The Canadian Flag is one of the most well known flags in the world, but where did it come from? Well, the history of the Canadian Flag starts with the iconic maple leaf. The design we know today was created by historian George Stanley, and was officially adopted as the National Flag of Canada in 1965. But getting there was no easy task. The push to adopt a unique national flag grew throughout the early 20th century, and by the end one World War II, most of the public was on board. In 1963, Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson vowed to adopted a new nation flag in time for the Centennial Celebrations in 1967, but many still supported the Canadian Red Ensign. This kicked off a time that became known as the Great Flag Debate.
